I often hear how ocean water is good for your skin. It is the nutrients in the salt that make your skin look and feel so vibrant and healthy.

Maybe you have noticed in the days following a trip to the sea that your skin looks incredible- more nourished and youthful, with a lovely glow. It’s not just the tan from the sun making you think you look better. The salt water is giving you some superb skincare benefits.

It’s no wonder, then, that skincare product manufacturers have created salt water sprays. These handy sprays bottle the nutrients for the ocean water and allow you to apply it directly to your skin.

I made my own salt water face spray, and I want to share the method with you. First, I would like to talk about what this spray is and exactly what it does for you.

Anecdotal evidence about trips to the beach making people look great are fine, but let’s get into the actual benefits that salt water spray offers. I know many of you will appreciate that.

What Is Salt Water Face Spray?

This is a salty spray that you apply to your skin or in your hair. Putting it on the skin is supposed to be akin to taking a dip in the sea and offer you the same kind of skincare benefits you get from that.

This method simply saves you a trip to the beach and the trouble of applying sun lotion. It is meant to be a quick and simple way to pamper your skin, but does it really work?

Benefits of Salt Water Face Spray

There are definitely some benefits to using salt water spray on your face. It has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties. Plus, the salt water is great at reducing inflammation. That makes it pretty healthy for your skin, especially if you are dealing with eczema or another skin condition.

You do want to be careful about drying out your skin, though. The salt can absorb moisture, which makes dry skin even dryer and can rob combination skin of essential hydration. So, if you are going to use salt water face spray, do so sparingly, using just a little at a time.

Also, it is best not to do it every day. This spray is a good way to treat some skin conditions when they flare up, but it is not necessary for everyday use, nor would I recommend it for that.

Salt water spray is a decent exfoliator as well, creating small abrasions on the skin that are not damaging. This can help lift off dead skin cells and other debris when you wash your face. Any kind of exfoliation treatment is going to help give your skin a healthy glow and make your face more vibrant and clearer.

Once again, that is not something you need every day, but the occasional salt water spray exfoliation can be quite helpful and make your skin stay looking beautiful and clean.

Salt spray works as a facial toner, helping to even out your skin and remove blemishes and discoloration. It can be left on if it is light enough and doesn’t contain anything too abrasive or reactive. In certain salt sprays, there are some great minerals that are very good for your skin, encouraging better skin health over repeated uses.

How to Make Salt Water Face Spray

There are lots of ways to make homemade salt water spray that would be safe to use on your face or your hair. I will share one of those with you- something I found that works great and doesn’t cause any harmful reactions or undesirable effects.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of sea salt (or Himalayan salt)
  • 1 cup of boiled water (or distilled water)
  • 1 pinch of Epsom salt

Directions:

  1. Combine Epsom salt and sea salt in warm water. Stir together until the salt dissolves completely.
  2. Store in a spray bottle or glass jar until you are ready to use it.

You can add in a few drops of your favorite essential oil to make the spray even more beneficial and to give it a pleasant smell. You may want to use something like mint or lavender.

You could also use magnesium flakes instead of Epsom salts, as those flakes have specific beneficial characteristics that make them a good addition to this spray.

To use the spray effectively, you should apply it to your skin by spraying it on lightly; don’t worry too much about getting full coverage. Or you could use a cotton pad and use that like a toner. The spray can be used when you do your daily skincare routine, or you could apply it after you get out of the shower.

If you want to change things up even more, though, you could use herbal tea in place of distilled water. Use something like chamomile tea or calendula, but whatever you use, make sure you are working with a tea that comes from dried herbs and not from a tea bag.

Should Salt Water Spray Be Used to Treat Acne or Eczema?

Dermatologists do say that salt water spray can help with acne breakouts and with preventing acne as well as in the treatment of eczema. However, they recommend that you use products specifically designed for treating those skin conditions to handle them more effectively.

While salt water spray can help to alleviate some of the symptoms and give you less severe skin problems, it probably won’t cure or eliminate the issue.

Feel free to use salt water spray as part of your beauty regimen when you are dealing with these kinds of skin problems, and you can expect the spray to help.

However, you should be using dedicated treatment products to deal with the conditions as well, if you want to see powerful results in a short period of time.

This facial spray is trending now, and I know there is a lot of misinformation about it and plenty of TikTok videos demonstrating how to use it and the kind of results that people get, so I thought it would be helpful to keep you all informed about what the spray is.

I hope you find the info here helpful as you develop your own beauty and skin care regimen.
