If you find that you are seriously not happy with your life, you may be wondering what to do when you hate your life so much that you want to make a drastic change. Some people like to make a change just for the sake of having something different in their life. Others just start to feel hopeless or like nothing they do matters.

The good news is that there are some things you can try steps you can take if you’re not sure what to do when you hate your life. You may be at an important crossroads right now what is kind of like a very important decision or it could just be a minor phase you’re going through and the feeling of hatred for your own life may pass. Either way, some of the following methods may be able to help you.

Tell Someone about Your Feelings

If you are feeling seriously depressed about your life and where you are in it, it’s time to open up to someone. Many people who start to feel this way believe that there’s no one that can talk to about how they feel. It’s okay to open up to someone who’s not a family member, and there are hotlines specifically designed for people to reach out when they need someone new to talk to.

It is best to talk to someone you know and trust about these kinds of feelings, though. If you’re wondering what to do when you hate yourself and your life, the best step to take is to let somebody know. Just talking about it can be therapeutic, and it can help you to verbalize what you been thinking. Once you get your thoughts out in the open and tell them to someone, that can help you to have a new perspective on the situation.

What happens many times is that people start to realize that their life is not as bad as they think. Or the person they are opening up to can help them identify some of the things about their life that are worth looking forward to a being thankful for.

Count Your Blessings

You might believe that this measure is something only used by people who are spiritual or religious, but there is a definite benefit to looking at the bright side of life. A lot of times what happens to people who are depressed about their own life is that they haven’t looked at anything positive about their life in a while.

If you have been wondering what to do when you absolutely hate your life, then it’s probably a good time to list the things about your life that you like. At first, you may have some trouble thinking of anything. Once you start to assess your life and take a wider view, you may notice some things about your life that are very positive and that you’re grateful for. Simply taking tally of those blessings in your life and trying to search for positive aspects can help you gain a new perspective. You may suddenly see your life in a new light and realize that it’s not as bad as you thought.

Change Up Your Environment

This step doesn’t necessarily mean making a radical and permanent change. Instead, consider stepping away from where you are right now physically and changing things up a little bit.

In other words, if you spend a lot of time indoors, take some time to go outside and spend time outdoors. You can go for a hike in the woods, take a walk through the park, or just walk around outdoors. If you spend a lot of time in the city, it may help to spend an afternoon in the country.

If a lot of your time is spent with family, it can help to get away from them for a little bit, even doing something as simple as spending the day at the library or at the mall. You should make sure you’re doing an activity that is age appropriate and stepping out of your environment in a way that safe and suitable for you, but definitely consider undergoing an environmental change for even a few hours. That shift of environment can cause a shift of perspective.

As you start to recognize that you’re not sure what to do when you hate everything about your life, making progress toward fixing it could be as simple as getting yourself into a different environment for a period. What happens with a lot of people when they try this exercise is that they realize it’s not their life they hate but they are simply experiencing boredom or frustration. They may be lacking adventure or sense of variety in their life, and by doing something different, they gain a new perspective on their life.

Do Something Fun

What to do when you realize you hate your life? You might just need a break from what you’ve been doing, and changing up your routine can help. Some may call this self-love and others may call it treating yourself, but simply taking a little time to do something you enjoy creates a shift in your perspective and helps you get out of a rut.

Try to do something that’s a bit different from what you regularly do for fun, expanding your horizons and feeding your sense of adventure. This is what can help a lot of people when they aren’t feeling great about their life. When you aren’t sure what to do when you hate everything about your life, just spending a little time enjoying yourself can make a big difference.

Try a few fun activities to take your mind off of some of the things that have been bothering you and to inject a little bit fun back into your life. You may want to go see a movie, go out to eat, spend time with friends, go horseback riding, go to an amusement park, or make that purchase you’ve always wanted. Essentially, you’re trying to reward yourself with something fun. It doesn’t have to be expensive, but it needs to be something that you personally find enjoyable.

It’s Important to Get Help

Do you know what to do when you seriously hate your life?  The first step many people need to take is to get help with this problem. Talking to a friend, family member or trusted counselor can make a big difference. Discussing your problem and letting someone know what you’re going through is a great step to take.

Unfortunately, a lot of people keep these kinds of feelings inside them until they devolve into severe depression or even suicidal thoughts. If you start to feel suicidal at all, you need to reach out. Thoughts of depression need to be taken seriously as well. Start by telling someone what your feeling and talk about your perspective on your own life.

It’s best to talk to someone that you trust to give you good advice, whether it’s a healthcare professional, a teacher or someone else you respect. If the problem is serious enough, you may need to enroll in a program that can help you gain a better perspective on your life or make changes that will help you improve your life.

By talking to someone, you may be able to get the advice you need to start making some positive choices. Step by step, you can start to change your life or change your perspective, feeling better about who you are and where you are.

The change may not happen right away, and it could take a while to really start feeling like your life is a good one, but it’s important to know that you don’t have to keep hold of those feelings of hating your own life. You can love yourself and the life you’re living, if you just follow the advice provided here.
